Yes: Replika offers a localized interface and accepts conversations in other languages. On the App Store, checked on September 30, 2026, the French listing shows “French and 4 more” in the languages section, with Luka, Inc. as the provider and an 18+ age rating.

Replika is an AI companion, meaning a virtual character you talk to by text or voice, who remembers what you tell them. The app has been around since 2017 and now presents itself as “the AI that’s with you every day.” Its store description highlights memory, calls, avatar customization, and proactive suggestions to help you move forward in your life.

Two things often get mixed up: the interface (menus, settings, payment, store listing) and the chat language (your companion’s replies). With Replika, both are available beyond English. That’s not true of every app in this space, as we explain in our guide to truly multilingual AI girlfriends.

The app generally follows your phone’s language: if your iPhone or Android is set to another language, Replika’s menus display in that language. For the conversation, you simply write to your Replika in your language, and it replies in the language of your messages.

• On iPhone: Settings, then General, then Language & Region; iOS also lets you pick a language per app in the app’s settings.
• On Android: Settings, then System, then Languages; recent versions also offer per-app languages.

We don’t publish any measurement of how well Replika handles each language: no developer provides a reliable figure on this, and we don’t make up scores. The simplest move is to use the free version for a few days before paying anything, so you can judge the tone and vocabulary yourself.

One important detail: the subscription goes through App Store or Google Play in-app purchases, and the store shows the price in your local currency at checkout. We couldn’t find a public pricing page on replika.com (the /pricing address returned an error on September 30, 2026), so the exact amount is the one you’ll see in your store, not a figure we can guarantee here.

Over a year, the annual plan costs less than three months of the monthly one. If Replika works for you after the free trial, it’s the logical choice; if you’re still on the fence, a single monthly payment limits the risk.

Yes: Replika has been non-explicit since 2023, including on Pro and whatever language you use. Writing in another language doesn’t get around this filter, which targets content, not language.

In early 2023, Luka Inc. removed erotic roleplay (“ERP”) from the app. The Pro subscription still unlocks a romantic partner status, with affectionate messages and calls, but conversations stop short of any sexual content. That’s why Replika is left out of our NSFW AI girlfriend comparison (NSFW stands for “not safe for work,” meaning adults-only content).

So the 18+ age rating on the App Store doesn’t mean the content is explicit: it reflects the kind of relationship offered and the store’s rules. If you’re coming from Replika looking for what disappeared in 2023, you need to switch apps, not settings.

The Garante, Italy’s data protection authority, fined Luka Inc., Replika’s developer, €5 million for GDPR violations (the EU’s data protection regulation). According to the Garante’s official statement, three issues were found as of February 2, 2023, the date it had already ordered the app blocked in Italy:

• no identified legal basis for the data processing carried out through Replika;
• a privacy policy deemed inadequate on several points;
• no age verification mechanism at all, either at signup or during use, even though the developer claimed to exclude minors.

The Garante also opened a separate investigation into how Replika’s generative AI model is trained. This fine says nothing about the quality of the app’s language support; it concerns how your data is handled. As of September 30, 2026, it’s the only public penalty of this kind among the apps we track.

The Replika alternatives with a multilingual interface, according to our checks on September 30, 2026, are Candy AI, Secrets AI, Kupid AI, Lovescape, and Character.AI. They don’t all target the same use: the first four allow adult content, while Character.AI filters it like Replika.

Candy AI is the most complete option for media, but images, voice, and video are paid in tokens (prepaid credits). Secrets AI emphasizes memory and privacy, with a pricey monthly plan and a far more reasonable annual one. Kupid AI shows its prices by the week ($3.44/week billed yearly, ≈ $14.9/month), but its memory is weak and its terms mention a $3.99/month data retention fee after cancellation.

• Stick with Replika if: you want an official iOS and Android app, a gentle relationship, calls, and memory of your daily life, and its regulatory history doesn’t put you off.
